 Time and Mason Eckhart
Prior to the start of Season 2, the official Mutant X site had biographical material about Mason Eckhart, indicating that he was 45 years old and that his immune system had been destroyed 16 years before. [45 years is not a randomly chosen number, but Tom McCamus’ age at the beginning of series production.]
Tribune’s faux website genomex.net provides the information that Mason Eckhart was born 6 June 1962.
With the above data, a series timeline may be established for S1:
1962 + 45 = 2007
2007 is the year in which S1 takes place.
2007 – 16 = 1991
1991 is the year Incident X happened.
When was the first mutant created?
Gabriel Ashlocke was 10 years old in 1978. That means he was born in 1968, and so is purely Paul Breedlove’s work. No other mutant can be older than Ashlocke; they all must be created during or after 1968.
Adam’s starting time at Genomex is indicated exactly as October 1978, when he was 19. This also yields his year of birth, 1959. When did Adam leave Genomex? We’re told he worked there 20 years.
1978 + 20 = 1998
When were most of the mutants created? Most appear to be in their early to late twenties, 22-29 years old, which implies birth years of 1978 – 1985, when Adam was working at Genomex.
What was Mason Eckhart’s involvement in the creation of the Children of Genomex?
Born in 1962, Eckhart probably graduated from high school in 1980. We know he spent 4 years at West Point studying military law, indicating that he is not a technical person at all. His earliest recruitment date to Genomex is 1984.
Fresh graduates without a technical education are not put in charge of research programs at the age of 22. Very likely then, Mason Eckhart has no reason to feel guilt over the creation of mutants, and his role is to clean up the mess Breedlove and Adam made.
How old is Danielle Hartman?
She is described as being in her mid-30s. She cannot be older than Ashlocke; if her age is taken as 35 in 2007, she was born in 1972.
When was Catherine Hartman born?
2007 – 15 = 1992
Whether or not the production staff worked out these dates in advance is questionable, considering the problems cropping up in S2 and S3 with Brennan’s 2 fathers, among other contradictions. However, this timeline does work, and it does make sense.
