31 December 2004--The groundbreaking ceremony was held today for the new wing to house the Eckhart permanent exhibit, drawing luminaries from the world of arts and letters.
The ELS has long wanted to be able to exhibit all of their Eckhart holdings, and when construction is complete, that dream will become reality.
How the Eckhart Literary Society Made the Dream Real
The efforts of many thousands of dedicated volunteers was required to make the permanent exhibit wing become reality. An ambitious fundraising program made all the difference.
 Candy was sold widely throughout the United States and Canada. These sales were supported enthusiastically by the public, surprisingly aware of the importance of the Mason Eckhart literary legacy. Armies of children sold candy bars; legions of adults sold candy bars at work.

Far and away the most successful of our fundraising schemes were the ELS bake sales, which seemed to pop up just about everywhere every weekend! Without these enthusiastic bakers and volunteers manning the sales tables at stores and malls, the new wing would have remained unattainable.
